Goodbye, Cute Robot

I recently did some digital decluttering and while I was meant to downsize my digital footprint, I ended up expanding it instead. Typical of me. Just like when I got rid of my own clutter at the car boot sale only to bring some new stuff back from it...

But back to the side project list downsizing. As some already know, I've been designing book covers for indie authors for over a decade. However, BookCoverMasterclass was never my main business. Not being an illustrator myself and with the ongoing generative AI drama in the author world I thought it was finally time to hang up my hat on that project.

This wasn't the only publishing-related experiment that needed my attention. There was also WriterPA, my semi-related publishing admin workflow automation tool. Track your books, expenses, tasks, book earnings, and manage your series bible, that kind of thing. It even had a chatbot feature planned to avoid click fatigue in non-technical authors... Then again, it was a decade ago that I put that project on hold for personal reasons. Today, I'm not sure a cute robot assistant would go down well given the AI sentiments in the writing world. 🙈 At least I used stock images for it.

So, I actually had two projects to wind down. Oops.

But I'd still been doing bits of work related to both of these projects. And I realised, since I enjoy this type of work, I didn't want to completely stop. I still wanted to offer help with the more technical aspects of book cover work and creation of marketing assets. I still publish books and as I'm solving my own publishing pains I want to have a place to share solutions with the wider community.

Rather than try and keep two half-empty websites I killed one and kept the other. Then I said goodbye to the cute little robot and merged all my author-publisher services under the WriterPA name. Though I did keep the logo and brand colours, as well as the background image from the old project as a little nod to the past.

The change allows me to be clearer about the full range of services available all in one place:

WriterPA is deliberately somewhere between a consultancy and a technically-minded publishing PA you can call or email when something needs figuring out.
